The rebounding fuel price around the world is having an impact on the Qatari scene as well.

Qatar’s Ministry of Energy and Industry announced an increase in the price of all types of fuels in the country.

In March, people will have to shell out QR1.60 for a litre of Premium petrol, up from QR1.55 this month.

Similarly, those who wish to purchase a litre of Super gasoline will have to pay QR1.70, instead of QR1.65 in February.

The price of diesel, after having stayed the same throughout 2016, has now increased for the third consecutive month. The price of a litre of diesel in March will be QR1.55, an increase of five dirhams from this month.

One way it is bad to see because it is affecting a middle and low income people.

Other way it is good since it allows the owner to think which car he should take for office and which one for family outing. We can see almost half of the car in Qatar is bulky which is more than the purpose. For a single person, why they need a land cruiser / patrol/ armada / sequoia ? . For a 70 kg average weighed person, why they need a 5 Ton car ? and spent more fuel ? . Now they will definitely think which car they should pick for daily use and weekend use.

Minor? Really Brit?. When I first came here 18 months ago, Super was 1 Riyal per litre, now it's 1.70 per litre. Not a minor change.

It impacts the cost of living directly. Did anyone notice increase in prices over past five years? They've gone up by 100% on all items whereas salaries are still same almost. Living in Qatar is no more going to be joyful. Be ready for a machine life.

It's a scam. They will raise every month untill they reach 2.5 in 2018. That's the plan. Look remember when oil was $100 a barrel and the economy had lots of money and fuel was subsidized at 1 riyal per litre. Then the fuel prices FELL but Qatar had to increase prices because the government relies on oil/gas income to fund the countries growth. So they argued we have lost a lot of money since the oil prices FELL so we can't subsidize fuel we need to increase the price.

But wait now the price for oil in the global market is INCREASING, so technically the fuel prices should be decreasing because they are generating more revenue again. But now the arguement is that we switched to being a conventional economy with regard to fuel and so gas prices will increase as oil prices increase. End of the day oil goes back to $100 a barrel but rather than decreasing the price of gas back to 1 riyal they increase to 2.50 and say it's because oil is expensive!! They've done the old switcheroo on us all.

Not sure about others, but now its really becoming concerning. Perhaps I will have to cut down on my fun and entertainment to reduce my fuel costs.

Suddenly my bed seems to be a very good friend than my car! :) :D
