Part of Dukhan Highway now open

The Public Works Authority — Ashghal — has announced the opening of a new part of Dukhan Highway Central between Al Rayyan Roundabout and Sheehaniya Interchange.
Nine kilometres of a four-lane carriageway, including an underpass of Al Dehailiyat Army Camp Interchange, are now open to traffic.
As part of the project, two underpasses for camels crossing near Al Rayyan and Al Sheehaniya roundabouts are also open, along with two lanes of service roads in each direction.
To increase commuters’ safety, crash barriers of 18,000 metres have been installed as medians and driving speed has been limited to 120kmph.
The completed works include 10 underground electrical sub-stations for power supply and protection for gas lines and infrastructure networks.
Ashghal recently announced the completion of the New Wajbah Underpass, which is part of the newly-built Al Wajbah Interchange of the Dukhan Highway Central Expressway project.
Two lanes in each direction have been opened to traffic through Al Wajbah Inderpass.
The expressway project will improve traffic between Doha and west of Qatar. This project will serve residents of Al Sheehaniya and adjacent areas, especially those who work in Dukhan and north of Qatar.
The project includes construction of 15km of a new highway from west of Al Wajbah Interchange and ending east of the town of Al Sheehaniya.
It comprises a dual carriageway with four lanes, service roads and cycle track in each direction.
Commenced in April 2011, the project includes the construction of two underpass interchanges at New Wajbah and Al Dehailiyat Army Camp.
In addition, a major multi-level interchange ‘Rawdat Rashed’ will be built at the junction of Celebration Road to provide access to Al Rayyan Stadium, Mall of Qatar and other construction projects in the area.
