Nine arrested following tobacco den takedown
The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested nine individuals involved in producing, packing and selling huge quantities of chewing tobacco — Sweika.
A total of 6,000 packs were seized, the Ministry of Interior said in statement yesterday.
Following a tip-off on production and packing of ‘Sweika’ at a house in Wukair, the department monitored suspects to ensure reliability of the information and rounded up nine during a raid on the house.
The suspects were referred to the South Security Department.
The department urged citizens and residents to coordinate with security agencies and the ministry by reporting any person suspicious of producing and dealing in Sweika which is a threat to health. Such complaints can be reported to Operations Room by calling 999 or to the Central Investigation Department on 2347444.
