A new security robot has been launched at the Hamad International Airport
If you thought Robo Cops existed only in movies, think again.
Although it may not look anything like the classic robot policeman from the movie franchisee, the new security robot at the Hamad International Airport can still do a few impressive things.
The robot, shaped like a scooter, can remotely measure people’s pulse rate and also has an inbuilt facial recognition feature. The locally-developed robot also has cameras and sensors that can detect fake currencies, credit cards, abandoned objects and explosive of any kind, reported The Peninsula.
The robot was launched jointly by the Ministry of Interior and the Internal Security Force.
Major Ali Rashid, from Lekhwiya, who went live on social media from the airport, explained about the robot’s different features.
“The three-wheel scooter robot is small in size, allowing for its free mobility across different parts of the airport. It has various devices fitted on it that allows it to operate on its own,” he said.
A camera stand attached near the side wheel scans every passenger, displaying the person's face, heart beat, and identity to the official on a screen fitted near its handle. It also includes telemetry to detect stress.
There is also a small sensor near its footstand that scans for abandoned luggages. It also includes a money scanner and a finger print machine in case the official requires them.
