Motorists complain about flying debris posing huge risk to vehicles
A number of motorists have said travelling through many of Doha roads is posing a risk to their vehicles as flying debris is damaging the windshields.
They attribute the “annoying phenomenon” to construction work in several areas and the poor condition of roads in places such as the Industrial Area.
The motorists point out that flying debris is the result of vehicles passing over them at high speeds or during very windy conditions. The damage can range from a tiny scratch to chipped glass or a big crack, requiring urgent attention in many cases.
In some cases, the damage goes unnoticed as the flying debris involves tiny pieces.
While cars are common victims of this phenomenon, bigger vehicles such as buses are also known to suffer at times.
Operators of buses, including those carrying construction workers, claim that such incidents have become more frequent now.
Speaking to Gulf Times, some of them said buses are generally hit by flying debris while passing through areas where construction works are going on and also along roads that are full of craters — like the ones common in the Industrial Area. The situation gets particularly bad in windy conditions, they add.
The transport manager of a construction firm, which has several buses in its fleet, said even a minor crack in the windshield could require a replacement and cost at least QR1,000. Better-quality glasses would cost a lot more, he said.
The high prices often force operators to go for cheaper options, sources said, noting that this was not the ideal practice.
The transport manager of another firm said steps should be taken to offer wider insurance coverage for damaged windshields and also provide them at “affordable” prices.

I work in construction and firstly it is very clear that a lot of trucks are overloaded with material and it sits higher than the body of the truck, hence either falling over the side or coming off the top when travelling, covering the load with a fine net cover would stop 95 % of this happening
It's better to overtake everybody instead of driving behind them, Furthermore, be aware of Coca Cola cans being thrown out of the window by some ill-mannered children. According to Newton's Laws the force an object exerts depends on its mass and its acceleration.
My experience was with the bigger ones falling of the trailers. Last month I ran over a big stone in rayyan, which fell off from a trailer. I didn't see it while it fell because there was a car in front of mine, and this guy somehow managed to avoid the stone and I saw it too late to avoid completely. My rear wheel ran over it and was broken and the tyre bursted, I had switched to 17" rims with low profile tyres from 15" stock wheels last year. Fortunately I had my stock wheels with me, never sold them, so saved further loss. still had to buy 4 new 15" tyres :-(
No the mesh is in the grille; my windshield is as vulnerable as the others; the pitter patter of stones hitting the car in city driving, sounds like gunshots when racing someone on the highway...
I believe mohdata put a chicken wire mesh in print of his windscreen to cater for such - perhaps that's an option
I paid 3.5k for my windshield weeks back. Horrible trucks without any cover!!!
Never drive exactly behind a truck , the small stones get picked up by the treads of the rear wheel which are shot off due to centrifugal force which makes them a missile hitting cars of the people lik Ishu & Muad .......
i had this complaint for long time and have replaced the front glass once. but of late there is too much small or minuscule stones hitting on the front glass/windshield.
We have to expect such things - joys
This is why I never take my Pink Kia to the Industrial area - I always get Rizks to pick me up on his Tuk Tuk
