Ministry warns residents about cybercrimes in Qatar
Cybercrimes are increasing at an alarming rate in today’s world. Nothing is safe on the internet and everything should be treated with concern and care when it comes to technology.
Recently the Ministry of Interior (MoI) posted a word of advice on its official Facebook page, explaining what a cybercrime actually is. In fact, it further mentioned that every second 14 adults are victimized to cybercrimes globally.
According to MoI, as per the Law No. 14/2014 on combating cybercrimes, publishing any type of content connected to the sanctity of the personal of family life of a person or infringing on others by libel or slander or to threaten or blackmail someone by any means of Information Technology is a punishable offense.
Similarly, using information network or any means of IT to impersonate a legal or natural person, is electronic forgery & fraud.
Also, the ministry has requested the public to report cybercrimes by contacting 2347444 or hotline no 66815757 or email to [email protected].

i hate those spam +22 calls on my phone....called qtel and they said they can't do anything for out of country numbers...why can't these criminals use their skills to eke out an honest living?
Do not trust on any unknown emails who offers attractive prices -even not click \open attachment to protect your system \ notwork.
Not to keep your confidential finance \ banking information in commonly use free email websites or web services.
Recommended tips for protection against cyber attacks:
use a firewall to block unauthorized access,
ensure your device’s operating system is up-to-date,
use up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software,
use a pop-up advertising blocker on your internet browser,
use strong passwords, and do not use the same password on different sites,
secure your wireless network and be careful when using public wireless networks,
use reputable websites and mobile applications, and
avoid clicking on unexpected or unfamiliar links.

be suspicious of unsolicited messages, even from a person or organisation you know,
avoid opening suspicious or unsolicited messages with attachments and links to other websites,
avoid replying to or forwarding suspicious or unsolicited messages,
never supply your personal information to unsolicited emails from unknown persons
being on the lookout for email scams,
securing your computer from cyber crime attacks,
staying safe on social media,
exercise caution when shopping online and keep your personal information protected.
No personal data on any social website. Use an imaginary name, date of birth, place of living, and so on. Don't accept 'friendship' from people you don't know.
How can one protect himself from falling prey to cybercrimes ?
Don't share your password with anyone
Don't write your pasword on a peace of paper and leave near the computer (seen it happen)
Be wary when using a public computer
Whe accessing bank sites, make doubly sure that the site is secure and you log off properly
