According to a statement by MME, the launch of the first phase was preceded by preparatory meetings a few months ago, during which all school principals were instructed to participate in the program by supervising the distribution of recycling containers in school corridors and conducting competitions for students.
This was in addition to organizing workshops, seminars and awareness programs to increase students' awareness about the issue of recycling, the statement noted.
A total of 25 specialized vehicles have been allocated to collect recyclable materials as part of the Ministry's initiative.
The second phase of this project will start next year and will cover government agencies, commercial complexes, malls, universities, Karwa bus stops, hotels, and parks.
The third phase will kick off in 2021 and will see the deployment of an electronic system to facilitate the collection of recyclable materials from all houses in the country, besides the placing of sorting bins in Corniche and Doha city. The fourth phase will commence in 2022.
Minister of Municipality and Environment His Excellency Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al Subaie was briefed on the progress of the program as he inspected vehicles and containers used for sorting waste.
MME's Assistant Undersecretary for General Services Affairs Safar Mubarak Al Shafi said that the implementation of the program of sorting and recycling waste comes within the framework of the keen attention paid by the ministry to develop its services to preserve the environment and achieve sustainable development.
He said the program aims to reduce the amount of waste and maintain the integrity of the environment, benefit economically from recycling waste, achieve sustainable development, support the private sector and contribute to the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030.
