The Ministry of Municipality and Environment earned QR13.5m from the sale and auction of abandoned cars, which had been left unclaimed and parked in unauthorised areas.
While some of the cars were sold off, others were auctioned to dealers who specialize in recycling old cars.
Of the more than 34,000 vehicles that were removed, around 22,000 were sent for recycling, said Brig Ali Salman Al Muhannadi, Head of the Committee for Removal of Abandoned Vehicles at the Ministry.
Four employees — Mohammad Al Kubaisi, Marzuq Al Mesaifiri, Abdullah Al Khulaifi and Hasan Al Maliki — were also honoured by the department.

I often wonder what became of the Ferrari enzo that was lying in a Dubai police impound after the owner abandoned it and fled Dubai...the police denied it was auctioned but there's been no news of the car since...sad fate for an 8 million rial car and one of only 399 that were made...
