MEC closes down maintenance centre of a car company for seven days
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has shut down a maintenance centre, belonging to an automobile company, in the Industrial Area, for a week.
The closure order came after the company failed to notify relevant authorities at the ministry about recalling a certain model due to a manufacturing defect, which may pose a risk to consumer safety, reported Gulf Times.
The Ministry, in a statement, said the one-week closure came about as a result of the company’s violation of one of the articles of the Consumer Protection Law, which says “ Once the supplier finds a defect in the goods or service, it should notify the competent authority of the Ministry and the consumer of the potential damages, and how to prevent them and to withdraw the defective goods from the market immediately, and to announce this in accordance with the executive regulations of this law.”
According to the Consumer Protection Law, the administrative closure announcement will be posted on the Ministry’s website and in two daily newspapers at the expense of the violating company, reported The Peninsula.
