Massive road works ahead in Qatar
The next five years are going to be tremendously important for Qatar.
Watch out for a lot of roadwork in Qatar within the next five years.
Yesterday, the minister of transport, H.E. Jassim bin Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti announced at the Qatar Transport Conference that Qatar will have highways of a total length of 8500 km, 200 new bridges and 30 new tunnels by 2020.
The Qatar Transport Conference took place at the Sheraton Hotel, Doha.
It was opened by the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The minister of transport also added that the country has allocated 95% of its infrastructure investments to road developments.
He also mentioned that these projects are in addition to the already existing and recently completed transport projects like the new Hamad International Airport and the Hamad Port which will begin operation by the year end.
The Hamad International Airport has been ranked as one of the world’s ten best airports.
The minister further added that the Doha Metro Project has entered the World Guinness Record after operating the largest number of giant tunnel boring machines at once.
He has also said that apart from the metro project, preparations to put up a long haul train that will carry passengers and goods are being made. This haul train will link Qatar to the GCC rail network.
The official website of Qatar Transport Conference claims that around US$44,082 billion of transport projects are currently under execution in Qatar.
Over 30 experts in different fields of transport took part in the conference.
The conference began on the 14th of September and will conclude today.
the flying land cruisers and suddenly swerving corollas aren't going anywhere...preparing myself for a news report and pic of brit flying out of a pink tuk tuk which also is airborne, with a smug looking land cruiser visible in the background :-)
I heard that Rizks and Sulieman are getting together to start a rental company
Tuk Tuk should come in handy in Doha. Wonder where I could buy one here...
I think I'll just take the Pink Kia off the road for a while, strip the engine, retread the slicks and start using Rizks' Tuk-Tuk.
