Lulu Group warns patrons against fraud messages declaring them as ‘prize winners’
Fraud messages and online scams have coming up quite fast in recent times.
It was about a year back that Qatar Airways warned its patrons not to trust messages circulating on social media regarding giveaway tickets as prizes.
Now, Lulu Hypermarket has issued a warning to customers to not fall for people using the supermarket’s name to access personal and financial information.
Fraudsters have been messaging people saying they had won huge cash prizes from a Lulu promotion and that they needed to contact a number using the IMO app, reported The Peninsula.
“We’ve come to know about some incidents of attempted frauds in the name of Lulu Hypermarket, where callers have identified themselves as calling on behalf of Lulu and tried to obtain certain personal and financial information, including bank accounts and bank card details, with the intent of defrauding them,” the statement read.
Some customers received phone calls saying they have won prizes and that they needed to furnish personal and banking details in order to collect them.
“Lulu Group hereby declares that it never contacts and has not authorised anyone to contact its customers or common public for their banking, credit card or any similar details. The public at large is advised to exercise extreme caution while dealing with anyone asking for their bank card or other personal details and report the matter to the concerned authorities,” the statement said.
Lulu had earlier put out a message on their social media channels warning against such fraud attempts.
Dear customers, please be careful with WhatsApp and phone calls from random numbers claiming you have won a big cash prize from LuLu as it is not associated with us. We never ask bank details for our promotions. We also encourage you to report such messages to authorities. pic.twitter.com/72EWm4CFSm
This is not the first time Lulu has had to come out against fraudsters attempting to fool customers. Just about four months back, the retail giant had warned customers not to trust fake calls involving ‘raffle prizes and gift vouchers.’
