International Court of Justice to deliver verdict on Qatar’s case against UAE on July 23

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is set to deliver its verdict in the case filed by Qatar against the UAE on July 23 (Monday).

Qatar had appealed to the world court in The Hague to order emergency measures to lift restrictions imposed on Qataris since June 2017 by the UAE.

A public sitting will take place at 3pm at the Peace Palace in The Hague. Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, president of the court, will read the court’s order, reported Qatar Tribune. 

The public hearings in the case filed by Qatar concluded last month. The delegation of Qatar to the public hearings was led by Dr Mohammed Abdulaziz al Khulaifi. 

During the public hearings last month, the UN top court was told the UAE was spreading a ‘climate of fear’ among Qataris living there, splitting families and causing ‘substantial pain’ during a year-long blockade.

“Many Qataris still resident in the UAE live in perpetual fear, they live in the shadow of the UAE's expulsion order,” leading British barrister Peter Goldsmith, appearing for Qatar, had told the court.
