The period prior to the start of a new academic year is one of huge pressure for parents, especially if they are expatriates from India.

Not only are seats for their children limited, there is also huge competition for the few seats available. More often than not, Indian children may not get admission to their preferred schools.

The Indian Embassy in Qatar has now stepped in to study the situation and has requested information from parents about students still seeking admission to schools for the 2018-19 academic year, reported Gulf Times.

The embassy had received numerous requests from parents seeking admission for their wards in an Indian school. The embassy said that the details of students will help them take up the matter with Qatar’s Ministry of Education, reported The Peninsula.

“The Embassy has received a number of requests for assistance, citing non-availability of seats in Indian schools in Doha. In order to take up the issue with the Supreme Education Council, Ministry of Education, we need to get a better sense of the number of children who’ve failed to get admission in an Indian school in Doha,” the embassy said in a statement.

Parents facing problems in getting admission for their wards in a school can sent an email to [email protected], reported Qatar Tribune. The following details should be furnished in the email.

1. Name of the student & QID No.

2. Age of the student

3. Nationality of the student

4. School desired

5. Class/Grade desired

6. Father’s name

7. Contact telephone

It is understood that problems regarding admission in Indian schools started after a prominent school with the capacity to accommodate a very large number of students was asked by the authorities to reduce their strength to the sanctioned number set by the ministry.

To achieve this, the school was forced to cease intake in lower classes. Many people feel this is the reason for the prevalent situation.

Despite several new Indian schools opening up in recent times, not all students were able to get admission there because they are much smaller in size and few of them are in higher fees category.

Qatar’s Education Ministry had recently launched a pre-registration system for school students this year.
