HH The Emir vows to invest $15bn in Turkey following his meeting with Erdogan
Turkey has steadfastly stood with Qatar ever since the illegal blockade of the country began more than a year ago.
Qatar has now vowed to stand by ‘its brothers in Turkey’ by announcing a $15bn investment in the country.
HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani made the announcement following his meeting with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Turkish capital city of Ankara, reported Al Jazeera.
Turkey is currently suffering from a currency crisis following heightened tensions with its NATO ally — the USA.
HH The Emir became the first foreign head of state to visit Ankara since the start of the stand-off with Washington last week.
HH The Emir, who met with Erdogan, discussed strategic bilateral relations between the nations. They also discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas, especially in the fields of economic and investment development, reported Gulf Times.
The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying HH The Emir. A number of Turkish cabinet ministers also attended the meeting.
“We stand by the brothers in Turkey that have stood with the issues of the Muslim World and with Qatar,” Sheikh Tamim said in a tweet.

The $15bn investment is expected to be channeled into Turkish banks and financial markets, reported Reuters.
“We attach importance to his visit. This visit, at the same time, is an indicator that Qatar stands with Turkey,” Ibrahim Kalin, a spokesperson for the Turkish president, told reporters.
Qatar has pledged $15 billion of direct investments in Turkey.
Turkish-Qatari relations are based on solid foundations of true frienship and solidarity.
Salim bin Mubarak Al Shafi, Qatar’s ambassador to Turkey, said his country would continue to support Turkey, adding that the emir's visit demonstrated the depth of the two countries’ ties.
“Qatar will continue to stand by its Turkish brothers as it did during the failed coup attempt in 2016,” Al Shafi said, adding Qatari people purchased millions of Turkish lira to support Ankara against the ‘economic operation,’ the country is witnessing,
