Hamad International Airport voted second best international airport in the world

The Hamad International Airport (HIA) is one of the world’s most beautiful airports and it has won a lot of awards in the past to prove it beyond doubt.

The world-renowned travel magazine, Travel + Leisure, published the 2020 World’s Best Awards results where HIA has been voted second best airport in the world. 

HIA, which has been described as the most architecturally significant terminal complex in the world,  is known for its innovative facilities, five-star customer service, and state-of-the-art terminal that can accommodate more than 30 million passengers a year, airports access, check-in, security, restaurants, shopping, and design.

HIA has achieved many significant milestones within the criteria for which it has been voted as the second-best international airport.

HIA was ranked as the ‘5th best airport in the world’ at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2018, which took place during the Passenger Terminal Expo 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden.

HIA was also honored with the title of ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ for the fourth year in a row and ‘Best Staff Service in the Middle East’ for the third year in a row.

The award recognized HIA’s innovative facilities, five-star customer service, and state-of-the-art terminal which can cater to more than 30 million passengers annually.

Voters considered HIA among their favorite and praised the airport for its exceptional staff service, facilities, extensive shopping options, and lounges which are housed under one expansive terminal.

“I'm no aristocrat, but I was treated royally every step of the way.” Multiple voters praised the lounges, and one particularly called out the “extensive” shopping options as an asset.

The airport was also admired as an exceptional layover destination for travelers.

Recently, HIA also received the ISO 22301:2012, one of the most rigorous and well-regarded standards certifications in the world that specifies the requirements for a management system to reduce the likelihood of disruptions, ensuring that a business recovers from disruptive incidents.

Qatar’s international airport has always been synonymous with redefining the airport experience in all dimensions.

As part of its battle against COVID-19 to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all passengers and staff, HIA recently transformed the airport experience by implementing a number of next-generation technologies including wearable thermal screening helmets, disinfectant robots, and an end-to-end contactless biometric passenger journey.
