British singer and songwriter Daniella Obeng, 32, who went by the stage name Devi Ka, was found dead in her hotel room in Doha on September 25.

The singer, who suffered from health issues and whose benefits were cut by the UK, had been contracted to perform at the hotel for six months.

She was only a few days into the contract when she tragically passed away, reported Manchester Evening News.

Devastated friends said the mother-of-one was forced to look for work overseas after her benefits were cut. She had been living with a brain tumour and epilepsy meaning she suffered ‘silent seizures,’ reported The Daily Mail.

Obeng had been assessed as ‘fit for work’ by government inspectors but could not find ‘reliable work’ in the UK.

“When she left to go to Qatar, her health was probably the best it had been for years, and she hadn’t had a seizure for six months. She had to go because she couldn’t find any reliable work in England. Her ambition was to send a positive message to the world through her music,” the singer’s boyfriend Stefan Paunefcu told The Sun.

“She had been sent from pillar to post over her benefits and it was impossible to live on £20 a week,” he added.

An inquest into Daniella’s death will be held at Stockport Coroner’s Court in January.

Friends have set up a crowdfunding page for the singer, the proceeds of which will be used to support her son as well as publish some of her works professionally.
