An Arab expatriate woman has been sentenced by a Doha Criminal Court to serve six months in jail for insulting and abusing a man through WhatsApp.

A fine of QR 20,000 has also been imposed upon the accused.

According to Gulf Times, the Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Friday that the woman used the mobile phone application through a SIM, given to her by an acquaintance, to send threatening and insulting messages to the victim.

The convict had earlier rented, through a relative, a house belonging to the victim, who later asked her to vacate the premises. She started to take revenge by sending WhatsApp messages abusing and threatening him, with the objective of getting him deported from the country.

Finally, the victim filed a complaint with authorities and submitted his phone with the relevant messages.

Investigations pointed to the convict and the phone and SIM used in the crime proved the claim of the complainant.

all those social apps are primarily tools of spying on people , the privacy they claim to give to user is a mere Hoax just like 9/11 and Apollo trips to the Moon !

so under any circumstances I do not recommend synchronizing your sensitive information pictures and real identity details to the cloud storage of any online source.

Rizks: Yes, governments allow these messenger services in their country only on condition of backdoor access to data being granted to them...i don't think they're reading each and every message going around, but if they want to look at someone's messages/data, they most definitely can...
