Expat who had not visited his homeland in years, dies in Qatar

Many people come to Qatar in search of a livelihood.

So did Abdul Khader Meeran, a 67 year old Indian, who had not gone to his homeland or seen his loved ones since 2001 or 2002.

Meeran was doing odd jobs in Qatar and had started working as a watchman in a warehouse in the Industrial Area.

The day before the Eid Al-Adha festival, he was found lying unconscious in the kitchen of his home by his friend and the “Mandoob” of his company. He died when he was being taken to the hospital.

Meeran’s case is quite common among many expatriates who come to Qatar with the responsibility of their family lying heavily on their shoulders.

Meeran himself couldn’t go back to his homeland, India for many years due to his responsibility to give his five daughters in marriage and his dire necessity to collect money for that.

His death was very unfortunate for, his youngest daughter had been married off a few months ago in his absence and Meeran had been telling his friend about his plan to go back home for good.

Hearing this, some residents in Doha have offered help to send Meeran’s body back to his home town, Thanjavur, India.
