Expat in Qatar with massive debts finally gets exit permit
An Indian expatriate stranded in Qatar for the last several months, was allowed to travel back home yesterday after members of the community intervened.
Gulf Times reports that the expatriate, who operated a couple of businesses, had incurred huge debts resulting from the continuous losses in his activities after becoming indisposed in a road traffic accident.
Compounding the tragic situation, his wife ended her life along with their seven-year-old daughter by jumping into a lake in Kerala’s Thiruvananathapuram in November last year.
The couple also has two other minor sons, who are in the care of the wife’s mother.
The suicide was triggered when one of her relatives duped her off the money she received for selling one of her husband’s properties to repay his loans.
The relative was arrested by the police later.
Once reports about the circumstances that led his wife to take the extreme step appeared in Malayalam newspapers, some of the community members in Doha came forward to help their compatriot.
The fact that the stranded expatriate’s two sons were desperate to see their father prompted the community members to stand guarantee for him, on the basis of which the sponsor granted him exit permit.
At the time of his accident, the individual had more than 150 expatriates working with him and most of them are still working under the same sponsor, it is learnt.
Its OK to take a Loan but used it in your most wised decisions since you cannot enjoy the success for a long time if u didn't experienced failure. :3
what happened in ASia Mall?
Very typical.. "The suicide was triggered when one of her relatives duped her off the money she received for selling one of her husband’s properties to repay his loans". Even their own relatives they duped, no wonder it's keep happening to other nationalities like the "tragedy" of Asia Mall in Old Airport Road few years back..
Ata, Banks make sky high profits from the public ........... they should loosen their grip on their treasure once in a while in the situations like this .......... a man has lost so much .......
this is unfortunate...
1) full commiserations, sympathy and emapthy for the guy...
2) unless your life depends on it, do not get into debt...once you do, be prepared for all consequences...
3) MM: Only islamic banks can be expected to share a loss on invesment. If he has debts with a commercial bank, he signed himself over in a contract... the bank is a business and not a charity fund...
4) thumbs up for all the fellow countrymen who have become guarantors for him...people love to hate keralites but they are to be admired for the way they unite and help their community...
MM, Thanks for ur considration, hope u also make some personal efforts to motivate your sponsors to do some charity work.
Heart breaking. This is a lesson for us to keep away from debt. Even recent financial crisis in America was just because of too many debt gone bad. Never take loan from banks. Just be content with what you have. Even if you want to do business just start with whatever little money you have. Look how much this poor man has suffered.
MM: What about the money he owes
Kind gesture by the colleagues ............... wish the man a rock like strength to begin his life again together with the kids ...........
Tragic.
Are the workers working 'with' him or 'for' him
