Excessive price increase at Al Khor fish market
Several locals have complained of “unreasonable and unjustifiable” hike in fish prices at Al Khor fish market, according to local daily, Arrayah.
The hike could be mostly attributed to the fact that sub-contractors manipulate the rental rates of the shops at the market.
According to retailers, usually a shop is given for QR 2,000 a month by the municipality.
However, there are some agents who take the shops on rent and lease it out again for QR 5,000 - QR 7,000 a month. This should explain the hike in the fish prices.
Seafood is a favorite among many expats as well as local citizens and many are urging the authorities concerned to exercise stricter control in monitoring the market. Source
