Draft decision to ‘prevent taxi drivers from overcharging’ approved
Overcharging by taxi drivers has been a constant gripe for many passengers in Qatar in recent years.
Finally, there may be some reasons to cheer as the Qatari cabinet has okayed a draft decision to prevent drivers from overcharging, according to the Qatar News Agency.
The new law also prohibits the sharing of taxis by the public. This decision may hit low-income workers the hardest, as it is common for them to pool their resources while sharing taxis.
The provisions of the law will apply to taxis operated by transport company Mowasalat and its franchisees, reported Gulf Times.
The draft decision prohibits taxi drivers from charging more than the ‘value recorded by the meter even if there is more than one passenger in a group.’ Drivers cannot allow sharing of rides by more than one passenger or one group of passengers.
This will come as a huge relief to passengers, who have often come up short due to the cheating nature of some drivers. However, how the government will be able to implement the rule will still need to be seen.
How about the those who like to hire passenger NOT based on meters but just based on agreed money which is so higher than metered.
Example -You can find KARWA at lulu- old airport ,The never come to the place where Meter charges under 10 QR .If you want them to come they will ask minimum 15 QR.
Secondly how about those people who never let passenger in if he like to travel or urgency to go longer distance or remote place. No driver like to pick them.
The person like me with family and with no DL (Even after trying 2 years failed TEST with no reasons) fully depends on TAXI is suffering a LOT due these kind of behavior of KARWAA.
it like my hands are chained and feets are locked ,cant move anywhere.
Maybe if the drivers were paid a livable wage they wouldn't have to try to con people?
Smart Meters would automatically sitch from day to night time rate .. no manual intervention needed
What about the drivers that set their meters to Night Tariff during the day?
This is very common to the red head cabs others are automatic.
The last sentence is key. I wonder why its so easy in the UAE and so difficult in Qatar ?
All cars should have smart meters and each ride should end with a receipt being given. The customer can anytime complain to the authorities if the taxi driver overcharges, drives rashly or is abusive.
This is a wise move - joys
