Donald Trump becomes the 45th president of the United States of America

Republican candidate Donald Trump threw pre-poll predictions to the winds, as he emerged as surprise winner in the bitterly fought US elections.

At the time of writing, Trump had won 276 electoral votes, breaching the magical figure of 270 to win presidency, while Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was trailing at 218. There are a total of 538 electoral votes.

The 2016 election, which had bitterly divided the entire nation, was initially very tight. Trump did better than expected in several key swing states and he consistently built up a lead. Clinton cut the lead towards the end, but it was too little, too late.

Donald Trump will replace Democratic Party’s Barack Obama, who governed USA since 2009.

Trump has always been a controversial character, who famously proclaimed he would temporarily ban Muslims from entering USA. His policy decisions will be keenly followed by GCC states as America has a strong presence in those countries.

USA has strong military presence in Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Oman and Bahrain. The US had withdrawn a majority of their troops from Saudi Arabia in 2003.

Here's what people in Qatar have been saying:

What are your thoughts about the US Election 2016 results?

//@mufti shahid: Whats wrong with duterte? do you know that duterte protects the lives of our muslim brothers in mindanao? he will implement a law that supports and protects our brothers in mindanao. his words maybe unaccounted for but he is fair.//

Good to know this but I am worried about extra-judicial killings which have become order of the day in Philippines. Law cannot be by-passed. Accused should be tried only under law and let courts decide the punishment. Unfortunately he has given free hand to police and another security agencies to kill people.

"Democracy at its best", that's what they say about America albeit India is the largest democracy presently. So isn't it evident how easy it is to influence and win elections in a "democracy". Sadly this is the case in many democratic countries.

Brity,

My writing not about Trump or Clinton. I have a thought.

Everyone say please vote as it's people's democracy. I am just wondering why do you vote for a doubtful person. As i said previously no politician in Asia or around the world use public transport or stay in rental house.

My question from the people is, Why do you vote a doubtful person. Why we cant stay without voting until the authority find the correct person. Or the people find the right candidate on their own.

Let us respect the will of American people. They have a right to choose a leader who they feel is good for them. This is what is after all democracy.

Careers: He knew what to say to get the votes from the people. Once in power, reality will bite. Can't see him surviving more than a term - However, the First Lady will "liven" up the place :O)
