Senior Indian journalist Anil Kumar Vijayan passed away unexpectedly in Doha on Friday following a massive heart attack.

The 56-year-old is survived by wife Shirley and two sons Ritwik and Rohit, reported Gulf Times.

Several community members and friends paid homage to Vijayan when the body was kept for viewing at the Al Wakra Hospital mortuary on Sunday.

The body is expected to be flown to Mumbai today, where his family is settled, according to sources.

Vijayan breathed his last while attending a function in Mesaieed. He had been planning to leave Qatar for good by the end of this month.

The veteran journalist has worked in newspapers and other publications in India and the Gulf region for about three decades.

In Qatar, he worked as Editor of BQ, a business magazine, and as copy editor in an English newspaper. Before coming to Qatar, he worked for Khaleej Times and Sharjah-based The Gulf Today, for about 12 years.

Vijayan will be fondly remembered for his sincerity and humility, his friends said.

prayers for his family; and isn't it food for thought as to how a person and his name become just a "body" the moment the soul leaves this mortal plane; "the body kept for viewing"; "the body will be flown home"...in this fast paced hectic life, we are all busy nourishing the "body" and others' needs while ignoring the nourishment of our own soul and its needs... we all need to slow down and attend to the truly important things in life... oh well..
