Coupons sold out for the sacrificing of Australian sheep
Considering the blockade, Qatar has done considerably well in keeping up to the demand for livestock to sacrifice this Eid Al Adha. Widam, Qatar’s Meat and Livestock Company, sold out nearly all coupons for sacrificing Australian sheep yesterday. An alleged 85 percent of the meat distributed to Qatar’s butchers is provided by this company.
5,000 coupons were issued by Widam at a cost of QR360 per Australian sheep for sacrifice on the first two days of Eid Al Adha. The sale of livestock began as early as last Saturday, with the company having airlifted as many as 12,500 Syrian lambs from Lebanon to help meet local needs.
In a statement to The Peninsula, a company source explained the coupon process. Those who have purchased one may visit the automated abattoir at Central Livestock Market, Abu Hamour and collect the meat of sacrificed animals.
The distribution of this meat takes place from 9am to 5pm today (yesterday was the first day of distribution). For anyone unable to purchase a coupon, you can still visit the conventional slaughterhouse at the Central Livestock Market, Abu Hamour.
The market at Abu Hamour has four slaughter houses, and one of them is the automated abattoir for Australian sheep, two are of the conventional sort and the fourth is for slaughtering large livestock like camels and cows.
Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khayarin, Chief Executive Officer of Widam Food, has done his best to reassure the public regarding the health of these animals, the cleanliness of the meat, and the fact that the company has made all due preparations to make the process of purchasing meat as hassle-free as possible.
i really think itss the need of the hour that the authorities shall move this place from abu hamur to more remote place as abu hamur is residential atea now..if not then atleast make two or three dedicated places for these slaughtering services in qatar..as all qatar rush to abu hamur for slaughtering purpose..for the last 25 years it been the same place...the facility is really poor..population jumped from .7 million to 2.4 million and we still dont see any improvement in this field...i hope someone shall look upon this issue..
