Confirmed, the Image on social media showing new traffic fines is a complete fake!
If you are even a little active on social media, you should have come across an image which lists out new traffic fines in the country.
Some versions of the image showed it being printed on official-looking paper along with signage of the Qatar Traffic Department.
However, you should not have reasons for undue worry because it has been confirmed as just another fake news, according to The Peninsula.
Ealrier, Qatar Traffic Department themselves came out with an explanation on Twitter that the image was doctored and not true. It also asked the country’s residents to not believe such forwards.
The tweet in Arabic roughly translates to “We inform you that, what is currently being discussed in relation to new amendments to traffic violations is incorrect and one should call on the Directorate General of Traffic to obtain information through its official website or accounts in social networking sites.”
The image in question showed exorbitant fines being levied on common mistakes with the highest fine being QR10,000 and a month’s jail term (for jumping a red signal).
So the next time you read news that sounds unbelievable, there is a real chance that it indeed might be.
it was such a poorly faked document that just the format was enough of a give away; a Microsoft word document with bullet points haha; the final straw was the erroneous previous fines for speeding, loud music and Mobile phone use; i wish the mobile phone fines were true though; considering that it is the most dangerous and over looked violation; I'd rather - and even happily - share the road with land cruisers doing 200 kph than with distracted selfish drivers doing 60 in the overtaking lane and talking on their phones; i hate and detest and resent mobile phone users with all my heart. They are the worst kind of people to my mind. selfish, self absorbed and inconsiderate of anyone else's safety. wish the police really went after them like they're now going after the lane cutters.
I can differentiate with absolute surety between posts which provide "genuine" help, assistance and guidance and those that are written just for the sake of misguiding people and giving them false hopes!
We must be capable to differentiate between true or false, real & fake.
