Qatar’s Cabinet has given its nod to a draft law on the regulation of ownership and usage of properties by non-Qataris in the country. The matter has subsequently been referred to the Advisory Council, reported Gulf Times.

The draft law stipulates that non-Qataris may own properties in Qatar as per conditions specified by a decision of the Cabinet and based on suggestions of the commission for regulating non-Qatari ownership and use of real estate, according to Qatar Tribune.

In all cases, the right of usufruct granted to a non-Qatari shall not expire with his death and shall be transferred to the heirs unless both parties agree otherwise.

The draft law provisions will apply to land spaces, buildings and residential units, as well as detachment units in residential complexes.

The move to grant non-Qataris ownership of land in the country had first been proposed almost four months ago. Once it becomes law, it is expected to shake up the country’s property market, according to experts.

The Cabinet also approved a joint work mechanism for the Ministry of Finance and the Qatar Fund for Development to determine the types of scholarships offered to non-Qatari students through the adoption of the Qatar Scholarship Program.

pioneer: no need to be so negative and downbeat about a good thing; the government thinks things through and will cater first and foremost to its people who are in full support of their leader. its better to have a truly competitive and progressive country and population than to top meaningless rich lists; its just a draft proposal and you're already picking holes in it; you must be great fun at parties...smh

i absolutely love the direction the government is taking the country in; many of the recent developments are obviously progressive and forward thinking in their reasoning and it will stand Qatar in good stead in the years to come as the wider GCC and middle east region evolves around it. May Allah guide Sheikh Tamim all along the way ameen.

It is expected to not only shake up the country’s property market...but drain away income of the Locals...then Qatar citizen per capita income will reduce and Qatar will degrade in the list of Worlds richest countries.

Once this law gets approved, all people will rent to Own Property ...rather than rent for nothing ...

So better not approve this except.. Posh Areas ...
