Bahraini king says his country will boycott all summits attended by Qatar
A mere few hours after Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Khalid Al Khalifa first tweeted that the country would not attend the GCC summit if Qatar was present, the Bahraini king has put his weight behind the minister’s stand.
Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa said his country will not take part in any summit or meeting attended by Qatar unless Doha ‘corrects its approach,’ according to Al Jazeera.
On June 5, Bahrain was the first country to impose the illegal blockade on Qatar, while Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE joined in within a few hours time.
The Bahraini King said Qatar had shown that it did not respect the treaties and charters that the GCC was founded upon, according to the Bahrain News Agency.
“As long as Qatar continues this approach, the Kingdom of Bahrain cannot participate in any GCC Summit or meeting attended by Qatar unless it corrects its approach, comes to its senses, and responds to the demands of the countries that suffered so much from its policies,” he said during his weekly cabinet meeting in the capital, Manama.
The response came soon after HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had taken a brave stand against the blockading nations in an interview with American TV show 60 Minutes.
A GCC summit is scheduled to take place in December in Kuwait, which is also leading mediation efforts to defuse the Gulf diplomatic crisis.
We, the residents of Qatar stand by our Emir and should always welcome any peace moves. But in case, if someone continues with this illegal blockade, we condemn their approach. Nothing is above the sovereignty of any region. The one's, who imposed this illegal blockade and the ones who support it, will realize someday, they did wrong and devalued their own worth. They must learn from Qatari Emir, how to lead a region. We, the residents of Qatar will always stand-by our Emir as we have all our trusts on him.
