Asian expatriate gets three years in prison for smuggling drugs

An Asian drug trafficker has been sentenced to three years in prison for trying to smuggle drugs into Qatari territory.

Customs officers arrested the man red-handed as he was receiving a parcel, containing amphetamine pills, which was sent from Bangladesh.

The officers screened the parcel and discovered 987 amphetamine pills, which were concealed inside cans of sparkling water, accessories and mobile phones, reported local Arabic daily Al Raya.

He was referred to the Public Prosecution where he was charged with drug trafficking and referred to the Criminal Court.

The Criminal Court found him guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison.
