Al Khater hopes presence of Qatari forces in Saudi drill could be start to resolving crisis
It was only a few days ago that Qatar completed its participation in the ‘Joint Gulf Shield 1’ drill in Saudi Arabia.
Lulwah Rashid Al Khater, official spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, has now expressed hope that it would prove to be a new beginning towards solving the Gulf crisis.
“So far, we don’t see any solution at the required level, but the Defense Ministry announced the presence of a Qatari military delegation in Saudi Arabia to participate in Gulf Shield drill. Qatar is always welcome to the idea of dialogue and sitting at the negotiating table,” Al Khater was quoted as saying by The Penisula.
“We cannot predict the positions of the blockade countries. We’ve seen from the recent past that it’s very difficult to predict their reaction or decisions, like what happened at the Gulf summit in Kuwait, where we expected the meet to be at the level of leaders, but we were surprised that these countries reduced their representation. To predict what they decide is difficult,” she said.
I was thinking the same thing,
Slow but steady, for are moving in the right direction. Our hopes will be fulfilled one day.
When this news first came in, my immediate reaction was that it was very good move and sent a clear message showing a thaw in the current rigid stand taken by parties. I just hope and pray all the nations in the GCC once again come back to the same strong, close and brotherly relations that existed before the crisis took place. A division within the Arabs is only hurting the Arab states, and benefiting others. These "other forces" were successful in their plans to create a rift among the GCC countries, cause a split in the close relations among GCC states, for their own benefits which I guess they have been successful in achieving.
Closing the ranks once again among GCC states and living like bothers in an atmosphere of understanding and peace is the need of the hour.
My hats off to Emir Sheikh Tamim for this very wise step.
