500 recruits begin military training
Qatar Armed Forces yesterday started the first course of the National Service Programme for university graduates, in the presence of the Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Major General Hamad bin Ali Al Attiyah and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Pilot Ghanim bin Shaheen Al Ghanim.
In his speech, the Minister said, “It is a great honour to open this great national project which our wise leadership, led by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, gave considerable attention to its application because of its importance.
“We are pleased over our success in implementation of the project, which we were assigned to study seven years ago and we have made endeavours to meet this demand by the Emir because it serves the Qatari society and contribute to building the community.
“We managed to achieve the goal at the beginning of this first session, and we wish the recruits every success to be the nucleus of the future in Qatar.”
He said the system of national service will greatly serve the Qatari society because it will be the nucleus for training young citizens in a lot of things that are in the interest of the country.
Brigadier Mohammed Misfer Al Ayyadi, Commander of Students Training Centre, told the gathering that the first batch of the programme includes 500 university graduates .
He also spoke about the course and its duration and answered recruits’ questions and inquiries.
He urged them to benefit from the course and show full commitment to military discipline.
He also provided guidance related to the course, sport and military training and theoretical lectures it will cover.
Al Misfer said also explained the daily work programme, pointing out that training will begin after dawn prayers where recruits will be trained by athletes trainers, also from the military.
Maj. Gen. Thamer Al Mehshadi, Inspector-General of Armed Force, Commander of Hamad Mechanized Battalion, and other senior officials were present.
