
Pacio crowns a memorable night of action at ONE 171: Qatar

Joshua ‘The Passion’ Pacio delighted Filipino fans by clinching the Strawweight MMA World Championship title with a stunning second-round technical knockout of USA’s Jarred ‘The Monkey God’ Brooks at the Lusail Sports Arena on Thursday night.
Although Brooks dominated the opening round during the ONE 171: Qatar event, Pacio showed excellent resilience to fight back in the closing moments and take a famous win.
Pacio controlled the action in the second round and threw several punches at his opponent. After 4 minutes and 32 seconds, the referee had to step in and declare Pacio the winner.
“I’m speechless. I’ve been through a lot this year. Thank you so much, Qatar. Thank you to all the kababayans for your support. The atmosphere is amazing, and that’s why I call Qatar home,” Pacio was quoted as saying by The Peninsula, after the win.
There were several other exciting bouts at the Lusail Sports Arena. Jonathan ‘The General’ Haggerty captured the Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship title, overcoming Wei Rui by a unanimous decision.
Welterweight MMA saw Roberto ‘Robocop’ Soldic deliver a devastating first-round knockout against Dagi Arslanaliev at just 1:55.
Shamil Erdogan took only 28 seconds to knock out Aung La ‘The Burmese Python’ N in a Catchweight MMA bout.
Shamil ‘The Cobra’ Gasanov was dominant in the featherweight category as he earned a unanimous decision over Martin ‘The Situ-Asian’ Nguyen. Bibiano ‘The Flash’ Fernandes edged out Kevin ‘The Silencer’ Belingon via split decision in a tightly contested bantamweight clash.
Meanwhile, heavyweight Kirill Grishenko overwhelmed Mauro ‘The Hammer’ Cerilli with a Technical Knock Out (TKO) at 3:28 of the opening round.
In Bantamweight Muay Thai, Jake ‘The One’ Peacock scored a third-round TKO against Shinji Suzuki. Ayaka ‘Zombie’ Miura showcased her grappling prowess at atomweight by submitting Ritu ‘The Indian Tigress’ Phogat with a kneebar in the first round.
Kade Ruotolo locked in an arm-triangle choke to dispatch Nicolas ‘El Paisa’ Vigna in a Catchweight MMA contest.
On the lead card, Zayed Alkatheeri impressed in openweight submission grappling, securing a first-round armbar over Mohammad ‘The Spear’ Aburumuh.
Abdullo Khodzhaev notched a late TKO win against Wilian ‘Samurai’ Poles in lightweight MMA, and Hussein Salem delivered a picture-perfect knockout at 2:25 of round one against Walter ‘The Snatch’ Cogliandro to cap a memorable night of combat.
