Kingsman — The spy who thrilled me!

Kingsman — The spy who thrilled me!

I’ve always loved watching good spy movies. If it has a dash of comedy, then all the better for it. While James Bond movies recently took on a more gritty feel, others have gone the comedic way.

Kingsman is deliciously shot and the actors are cast just right. The movie revolves around an ultra secret organisation of spies that keep the world from descending into chaos.

It’s not easy getting selected into it. Eggsy is a troubled teen, whose father was an efficient Kingsman. After he gets killed in the line of duty, the son grows up into a disgruntled youth with no aim in life.

Eggsy fights for a place in the secret organisation. The story then goes through a lot of twists and turns before reaching its climactic finale.

The movie, directed by Matthew Vaughn, who also made Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, is an edge of the seat entertainer.

I was pretty surprised that the dozen-a-minute swear words were not muted out. There’s plenty of blood and gore and also some fanciful shots.

Samuel Jackson as the villain is a hoot.

Overall, it’s a great watch.

VERDICT: Threaten, plead or drag your other half to the movie theatre. You won’t regret it. Nine out of 10 stars.

Nope, tons of f-bombs and ultra-violence. Thanks!

So I'm thinking there were no bleep outs/major cuts after all? Glad you enjoyed the movie. Bravo!

Well, I watched it today and I think it's awesome.

I was an idiot and booked a seat that was apparently too close to the screen, I didn't know that until I was there. The IMax screen is massive so when your seat is on the lower side; your peripheral vision can only cover the lower third of the screen. Didn't help that the Arabic/french subtitles were covering the entire lower third, too. It was very difficult to keep up with the dialogue without getting distracted by the huge subtitles that were staring at it in the face, so I ended up missing on a whole lot of what's really going on.

I did a crazy idea and booked the screening that's two hours after the one I already watched and re-watched the whole thing again. Like I said, it was awesome, great movie.

It's along the same lines, though a bit more refined. It's a James Bond meets Austin Powers meets Hunger Games kind of movie. Irreverent and fun!

haha, yeah I guess I can let it slide. It's just that I really enjoyed Kick-Ass that was directed by Vaughn, too. And part of the appeal to me was how there were no holds barred.

Mate, no hard feelings if there're bleep outs/cuts by the dozens, ok. All the best. You'll love the movie, I did!

You convinced to buy a ticket on Qtickets. Will let you know how it goes ;-)

Yes I did, but it was 2D. And it was glorious. Even the final 'mass explosions' had a gory charm to it, in full, trippy technicolour. :-)

Did you watch the Imax screening of it in Villagio?

I really want to man. But it's got a PG-13 rating on the freaking Q-ticket website, when it's actually rated R. This doesn't sound good :/

Happy to be of service, Geijutsu. I'm no professional, just a poor Pirate who hates pirated movies. You need to watch it in the theatre or not watch it at all! :-)

I really want to go and watch this as I have been waiting for this since I saw the trailer a while back. But, am afraid that the censorship would ruin this for me. Movies like Kingsman are meant to be experienced with all their curse words, raunchiness and violence glory. Oh well, another film that I have to wait for until it comes on bluray :/

Thanks for the helpful review btw. It's nice to see people doing reviews on films here in Qatar.

I truly have no idea. I'm just saying that if there are indeed cuts/bleep outs when you watch it, then that v was added at a later date. It wasn't present when I watched.

I remember being totally surprised it was allowed to stay.

Thanks POA for clarifying. So is it typical that they would sometimes add censorship to a movie few days after its first few plays, or is this simply a guess?

Jupiter Ascending I meant

I watched the movie first day last show. Most of the swear words were not bleeped out. And most of the kissing scenes were shown as is. I don't remember if some of the scenes were cut out. Some of them may have been, but it didn't jar.

On the other hand, Jupiter rising had a cut every seven minutes on average. That really was frustrating. I don't know if changed have been made (read cuts) to kingsman after the first day or two.

I have been very excited for this movie for a while now. But, given the R rating; I would venture a guess that it will be ruined by all the censorship they employ on movies over here. I remember being very frustrated when Skyfall was being played in the theaters at the Cty Center. Can anyone here who watched Kingsman in theaters verify if the censorship was annoying them, or did it not have an effect on your experience?

Hey, thank you, xpressdoc. It's really nice to get feedback on something one has written. Really appreciate for taking the time off to write to me. Regards, POA

P.S: Thanks for your comments on Jupiter Ascending and American Sniper too.
