I have been here for nearly four weeks and I can say that home isn't the first thing I think about when I wake up anymore but I still get days when I miss my familly. I find it's best not to phone them too often, emails and facebook are great and keeping busy really helps. You'll get there just hang on. Jane M

The 9-month version is the worst case scenario, so let's hope you're on the 3-month scale...:)

make new friends , do something creative during free time, do thinks which keep u occupied and thoughts free.. like in my case i used to do craft works, paint , browse , read etc... this feeling will b there and cant erase it away completely... try ur own ways of adapting to the new envireonment ... remind urself abt ur goal and y u r here every day.

wish u all the best .. and don worry u r not alone we r there for u.

I'm scared now! 3-9 months to get over homesickness!! I come there in August, so I sure will hope for the 3 months rather than longer. Good to know, tho. At least I will know I'm not alone :)

homesickness usually happens when you are alone. Try to be with someone most of the time or make yourself busy with your work to let time pass without even thinking about it. Be with happy people of Ql!

i never been homesick even my first day or within 3 months. I dont know. Bec. im always in the internet and playing online and S/A Games. I was home alone for 1 year in my country before coming here. and we were trained by our parents to stay in the house while theyre gone. we cook, clean, watch tv, sleep just having something to do while theyre gone.

There's no magic number. Like plumkiwi, it took me longer than 3 months when I first got here.

And it comes and goes. I still get homesick sometimes.

I'm homesick right now :-(

yes it's very normal to feel "homesick".but as you go along esp if you already have nice friends to hang on life would be better and always keep in touch with your family like i do..

doham.. homesickness would always be part of our days specially if we left our families back home.. but you have to concentrate on your goals as to why you are here.. :)

btw, i know that few have invited you to some group gatherings but you either declined or think of some ways to escape the invite.. :P

Yes and after 6 months you wont even know where your home is :p Sometimes i forget i have my parents back home coz i forget to give them a call for like weeks in a row and then i get spanked by Mommy Kat over the phone lol!

Just relax its a new country for you and you've hardly been here, take a look around, experience the middle eastern culture, forget the malls they all look the same. Go stand out in the sun and feel the heat, breath in the lovely fresh sand that blows in the wind.

Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

3 months would be your adjusting period.. just take one step at a time.. :)

its ok to feel homesickness.. give yourself a time and make yourself busy..

Its my 3rd month here and I cant tell you how many times I have wanted to just "pack it in"and go home. Everything takes time and you finally settle in. The loneliness is a killer if you dont know anyone!

First 3 months are the hardest, the next 3 are a bit better, and after 6 you won't feel homesick at all.

The first few months away from home are the hardest, so yes, you're nostalgia is justified. What's not normal and I'll not reveal, is how many times I visited my country the first 7-8 months I was away, the number of return tickets will scare you..)

Nice smile there...:))

The 1st time im here in Doha that was 6 years ago, it takes maximum 3 months to really tell to myself i was recovered from homesickness... yes as flanostu said it doesn't get any better, every year after my vacation the feeling of homesickness stays with me...it just a matter of prioritizing your life and the main reason why you are here working in Doha... in time specially when u meet new friends everything will be fine...the homesickness still there but at least not that much as the 1st 10 days of being here.... GOODLUCK and WELCOME TO DOHA

I've been here for 10 months and I still get home sick!

The first month is the hardest and after the 3rd month you'll start adapting to your new surroundings and I promise it gets easier!

Remember that time passes so quickly---it's going to be ok! I'm living proof of that. ;)

Hang in there!
