Host Family - to improve my English

Sarandra
By Sarandra

Well, since my attempts of convincing my family throughout the years to allow me find a host family somewhere in the West in order to improve my speaking has miserably failed.. I'm trying to find a family here in Qatar. It's not an ideal situation, but it's definitely better than nothing. They haven't approved yet, but maybe they will if I managed to find a family?

I'm looking for a family who's native language is English. If you're willing to help and have any inquiries, please feel free to message me.

Thanks!

Hi Sarandra, it seems like you already write well. So if you have a foundation in English grammar already and are simply looking to put it into CONVERSATIONAL practice, I work with groups and organize English Speaking Events.

Feel free to email: [email protected] for dates/times/locations or for more information.

Good luck with everything! Most importantly, don't give up :)

I already listen and read the news, this is a must for one of my courses at uni. But I stopped repeating their speech months ago.. Umm, I wouldn't say I have major issues understanding the different accents. I understand many accents England (but not so much with the rest of the UK), from cockney to RP, haha. Same goes for the American and Canadian accents. -- Anyway, thanks guys.

Appear for IELTS Exam.Try to work in american or British managed companies.Become member of British council.Main issue is the native speaker's pronunciation and accent ,which you cannot comprehend word to word.try to study in Qf university or in dubai university.Yes the best way to learn to speak any language is practice speaking with native speakers.also look for a native language teacher for tutions.

If you have cable Tv at home or youtube, then tune into CNN and repeat what ever the News anchor says to grasp american accent or BBC news for British accent. Take care.

Not everyone will behaves like that, though =) If your faith is strong, then you have nothing to fear. Besides, as mentioned in my first post, I am searching for a family in Qatar now. But, either ways, I believe you can do all this sort of "haram-ness" where ever you are located. I know I will figure out a way to have access to alcoholic drinks in Qatar if I please, and I can always sneak out (whether from college or whatever) with men without anyone knowing. Whether in Qatar or the West, it won't make much of a difference in that department.

So, how did you work on your speaking? Please enlighten me and share your methods. I might be able to implement them. Although I'm still not convinced that there's a better way than to actually interact with the speakers of the language and practice it.

During the mid-80's a major industrial group of companies in Saudi Arabia had carried out this experiment which now you want to do. They had sent a group of young Saudi fresh appointees to their company to England and arranged for them stay with English families for several months so that they could learn to speak English fluently. After just two years, the company had to abandon this experiment as when the youngsters returned, they had very good knowledge of wine and women and very little knowledge of the English language!

I am not a westerner nor have I ever gone to the West. I have not lived with westerners either, but I can say with confidence I write and speak the English language better than many westerners who are native speakers of English.

If you work hard with sincerity, you can excel in English even if you are here in Qatar.
