Mutaz wins fourth Asian indoor gold
DOHA: Qatar’s ace high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim won a fourth consecutive Asian indoor gold medal with a 2.35M clearance at the Aspire Dome.
The young jumper, who took bronze at the 2012 London Olympic Games, said he was thrilled with the win.
“The aim was to win the medal and remain injury-free. I’m so happy I could win a medal in front of home fans. This being an Olympic year, I’ll take part in only fewer competitions this season. I want to win an Olympic medal once again,” he told www.qatarliving.com.
He said he had not been aiming for a new Asian record in Doha.
“Sometimes all you expect from a competition is to win, but there’re also days you aim for the record. Today I focused on winning the Asian title. I’ve already won four area gold medals indoors and if I stay healthy, I’ll be able to extend that record, ” he said.
Here is to wishing the champion many more years of success.
Great guy. Wish him all the best for his career. The 2.45 m of Sotomajor of 1993 are still to be cracked.
