Hamad Medical Corporation begins its largest expansion in history
The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will open three more hospitals — the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, Ambulatory Care Centre and Women’s Wellness and Research Centre — in the next six months, it was announced on Wednesday.
HMC had opened the ninth hospital under its control — the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) — last week.
Once the expansion is complete, around 9,000 to 10,000 patients are expected to make use of its facilities.
“We’ve begun the largest expansion programme in HMC’s history. CDC and the three upcoming hospitals will significantly increase capacity across our system and provide state-of-the-art environment in which our expert teams can provide care for their patients,” HMC’s chief communications officer Ali Abdulla Al Khater was quoted as saying by Gulf Times.
Though HMC was established by Emiri decree in 1979, its oldest facility, Rumailah Hospital, has been caring for patients since 1957.
HMC has been undergoing rapid expansion since 2015, with several new hospitals having already been opened.
