Cheer Mutaz on as he goes for gold at Aspire Dome
DOHA: Ace Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim will need your support as he guns for gold in the Asian Indoor Championships at the Aspire Dome tonight.
While eight titles are set to be decided on the competition’s opening day, all eyes will be firmly on the local star to deliver.
The 24-year-old Olympic bronze medallist, who is also the reigning indoor world champion, will be raring to go in front of an adulatory home crowd.
With a 2.36M clearance in Malmo, Sweden, already under his belt, he may be gunning for his own Asian indoor record of 2.41M.
However, China’s Yu Wang, South Korea’s Seunghyun Yun, and Syria’s Majd Eddin Ghazal are all going to pose him problems.
Asia’s fastest man and woman will also be decided tonight.
Qatar’s Samuel Francis Adelebari and and Tosin Ogunode are likely to go head to head for the title.
In the women’s race, Kazakhstan’s Victoriya Zyabkin and Iran’s Maryam Toosi will be keen to impress.
Entry to the competition is free of charge. Mutaz begins competing at 6.40pm.
