Medications in Qatar

By zara_august •
I am wondering if I should be concerned about being able to get prescriptions for my medications while I am in Qatar. I am not sure how the heath care system works there and I obviously don't want to get there and realize I can't find a doctor to write me prescriptions. That being said, I will obviously bring enough for a couple months. Any advice on this would be really great. Thanks

Thanks so much Mandi & Aisha-Taweela! I hope all goes well since I know carrying lots of meds into a country is never ideal.

Aisha-Taweela, that is very gracious of you. I was unable to find a list of medications available.

IF YOU SEND ME A PM WITH THE LIST OF MEDS YOU NEED I WILL CHECK WITH THE PHARMACY TO SEE IF THEY ARE AVAILABLE OR WHAT SUBSTITUTE THEY HAVE. DOCTORS ENOUGH HERE - IT IS THE MEDS THAT LACK.
VERY good question! Yes, you need to find out which prescription meds are available in Doha. It's not so much finding a physician to write the scrip, it's a matter of the pharmacies not having nearly the selection that we have available in the US/Canada. This also goes for OTC remedies. You know how there's a whole aisle or two in Western supermarkets devoted to cough/cold/pain/vitamin products? Well, it's a tiny bit of one shelf here. Let me see if I can get a hold of the meds available and get back to you. I bring enough of my own to keep me until I get back home. One funny, Prozac is available over-the-counter in Qatar!
