"Intelligent" you are supporting government as they pay u for that...i must tell u that there is no restriction on a muslim to get a liquor lisence here..and this is a muslim country ..who is bringing liquor here ??? muslims obviously ...u think QDC is owned by a non-muslim??? the government should even ban bars if the government is following islamic laws...and yeah its true that the study really shows that muslims drink more then non-muslims now...trust me man i have seen local drunk guys coming to sheesha after drinking..(May Allah forgive us for our sins)..we are far away from our religion now and thats why we are standing here helpless at this point...look at palestine now..daily israeli raids...killing our muslim brothers...Does any so called muslim country dare to even say a word...shame on us...we should just be scared of Allah..as He is the biggest power..we should obey him and his Quran..and yes camel racing, horse racing, gambling on them and lottery things are clearly said to be "haram" in Quran and Islam...and its the passion of locals..

thx for all who really wanted to help by answering and also thx for others who was just negative and trying to offend or to judge or to attack.

religion is a matter of personal and private which everybody has. and i have no right to judge a human who's worshiping a stone or whatever, i respect it and accept it.

to be honest i didn't expect that chaos here in people minds, it was a simple question a friend of mine was asking me to post it here cause i don't the answer here myself.

who cares about forbidden or not forbidden i think he/she has to forbid all or to accept all and not to judge drinking for muslims and same time have a girlfriend/boyfriend which i knew its strictly forbidden also in Islam, also lottory i knew it here its forbiffen in Islam but people doesnt care about it, and running after drinking.

for me its non of my business if my friend is drinks alcohol or not, or has a girlfriend or not, what matters for me is what kind of human he is, and for me he is so respectful and honest and a good person to have as a friend and am proud of his friendship.

anyway thx to all here.

and

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Yes you can as long as you meet the criteria on your salary and a letter from you emplyer stating your salary thats all..

Religiuosly and ethically it may be wrong in drinking for a Muslim but there is no problem in getting a liquior licence and drink here in Qatar. Infact the studies has shown that the Muslims here in Middleast drink more than the non muslims..

Come on, I see so many Disdash (spelling) drinking in Ramada's football bar, even drunk. I suppose those wearing traditional are Arab-Qatari-Muslim. Any comment on this? I thought the government really appreciate so much on personal decision to drink or not drink.

But why drinking is bad? wine is existed, invented in the place where Mohamad and Jesues borned and raised and inspired. Just a question, don't want to create debate or get anyone assaulted.

So why there are horse racing, camel racing, lottery etc etc in Qatar and only Qatari are joining? Are they Muslim, I mean Arab Muslim... :P

By Intelligent• 31 Dec 2008 07:42

Its a good decision from the government of Qatar not to give license to muslims. See atleast this is also one more obstacle created by them and one more opportunity for you not to drink. You are so lucky that you live in such a nice society who really give good value to cultural values.

You should be proud of yourself of being muslim and thanks to GOD that it is still giving you a way not to drink. Brother just try to make your faith stronger and stronger. It will be so easy for you not to think even about drinks.

Peace.

Wow, lots of sermons this morning...

Robinson Crusoe, it partly depends on who you work for, since a letter from your sponsor is required. I had an Arab Muslim friend whose employer at first wouldn't provide him the letter, but then he told them it was none of their d*mn business and they ended up giving him the letter.

But if you work for an Islamic company, you probably shouldn't bother asking.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالأَنصَابُ وَالأَزْلاَمُ رِجْسٌ مِّنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ{90} إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَن يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ الْعَدَاوَةَ وَالْبَغْضَاء فِي الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ وَيَصُدَّكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ اللّهِ وَعَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّنتَهُونَ{91}

90. O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, Al-Ansab , and Al-Azlam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitan's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful .

91. Shaitan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?
