GT- shocking headline
By hari_krishnanv •
Having grown up reading some of the best written newspapers in English out of India ( we do read and write english there!), I was never a big fan of GT. But the basic error on the first page of GT this morning was a real shocker. The headline said
" MAN SENTENCED TO HANG FOR BEATING DEATH"
Well, the guy didnt "beat death". He beat someone to death!
flawed thinking......the last time i checked, outsourcing companies in Bangalore were teaching their employees how to sing "you will never walk alone".
of the headline in the Kuwait Times in 1978.
P.I.S.S. Officials Get Pay Increase.
They meant the "Pensions Insurance and Social Security" officials!
CRACKER,Ksarat!
Btw, Jesus, get a job tongues can change real quick, mate. Suggest you start taking Chinese and Indian language classes. 'cause those will soon be "get a job tongues" and "please your boss tongues"!!!!
PS: Appologies to the rest of the crowd here. That was meant for Jesus's eyes only and I really didnt meant it ! Indian and Chinese businesses might rule but English will and should remain the #1 language.
Good job mate, looks like you caught me there...LOL!!!
O well I know not a mother tongue, and trust me that Get me a job tongue did take an extra bit to get in up there to me brains mate...LOL!!! O I Tell ya, what to do, but having said all this, you must have managed to see some of the newspapers or the media industry of the country, O I tell you, superb the quality of production far more superior than some Other DEVELOPED parts of the world mate...
Try getting hold of some ads or communications or newspapers, it could be some lovely reading I tell ya..
"LOL!!! Come on mate, get your senses together, its heard I know, but hey wont hurt a try right...LOL!!!"
I see you need a proof reader too....."its heard"!!! Anyways nothing to be ashamed of, English is not your mother tongue but "get me a job" tongue.

Cos its all gobbledegook to me, and English is supposed to be my language.

i love it when they say " the cops ......." lol
Reading GT is one of favourie fun activity...it makes me laugh..their grammar and the typo's in particular...as someone mentione above, the english in Indian news papers are far superior..particularly, "The Hindu" is the best I have ever read in any part of the world
This is an Ad I read in GT some time back...
Urgently required a housemade for a local family to look after children.
Indeed...with such a name, and hey I would refrain from calling you all sorts of names bcos of the nickname that you carry, clever bugger eyy...LOL!!!
Well as much as I can see, it doesnt curtail to a particular writer of a country, this is what is meant by absence of Proof Readers...
LOL!!! Come on mate, get your senses together, its heard I know, but hey wont hurt a try right...LOL!!!
Dude what do u expect from these people, they are Racers man... Dont read Grand Toursimo News papers lol.
"There's good in everyone, sometimes people just get diverted to the wrong path"
wtf was that.....
I think the English language like many other languages changes progressively over the years as far as words are concerned but the basic grammar does not.
What I would like to mention that the art of readin and writing good books has changed overtime too. The American English is not English English and I too find myself confronted with an American spelling and grammar programme that I don't agree with but at then end of the day having lived in so many foreign countries with so many different types of English you get used to it and learn not to be so critical in the end.
Hi guys

oh you said about cricket, now dnt hijack this topic, its going to go places as someone up just pointed the finger at a specific country..
coming back to cricket are we playing next friday ..
u r not gonna get me into that little trap.
Judgement Day at West Bay Cricket Grounds :)
jesus the reporter of that colunm was not from his country ...
proofreaders?
Well most of GT writers come from your country so i can only imagine the headlines in India.
VOTE YESTERDAY CANCELED AFTER BRAWL
jun06 lolzz why dat date ..anything special about that date...
Bakamuna - Don't you know he is in a suicide mission before 06 June 2008 :)
deepmidoff you are right, there is a different story for this,
ksarat dnt drive while reading and GT is not worth at all..
It got your attention :-)
they should have said " Man sentenced to hang for beating to death". Good communication is all about using the simplest way to convey the message.
However, not in the connection with that article I woud say it is gramatically incorrect.
Sri Lankan Tamil beat fellow Sri Lankan Tamil for giving him Orders. I beleive there are more hidden facts to the cover up story :(
this is a "newspaper" which will be sold in public. Their English grammar especially the headline should be perfect!
q
Well let me tell you guys, this morning I bought the paper and was driving...and then suddenly I read that headline...it sure did catch my attention, and I just so couldnt resist the temptation that I actually started reading what it meant while driving..LOL!!!
Stupid GT..this is Customer Cheating I say!!!
why quality of so many services in Qatar is so bad- newspapers, customer service at stores, banks, schools etc etc. I would say, its because of lack of serious competition! Btw, does the country have some sort of a consumer grievance redressal system? Consumer courts?
i was stunned how this guy cheated death lolzzz
This actually means that the peson cheaed on death means he remained alive so in this case beating death.
The English in the newspapers is often incorrect but who are we to criticise I am glad we get one in English anyway.
although ambiguous I think it makes sense. It was a death from beating. i.e. a beating death.
I bet the man wishes it was true now though, beating death from hanging!!!
