Filipinos in Umbrella

miss saigon
By miss saigon

it was past 11 a.m. i have seen this one filipino guy,in al sadd crossing the street from royal plaza, in his construction uniform with his backpack and lo and behold with umbrella, i really had a good laugh.

maybe you have also seen around the street of doha,it was only filipinos who were waiting for a cab or car lift, will be holding an umbrella or waiting in a shaded area (under the tree or behind the post)

some even wear there shirt up side down over their face like a bank robber, just to avoid the heat of sun,

most of us wants to have a fair skin, whitening soap, lotion, moisturizers even whitening pills were very in demand in our country.

sad but true that some even look like kabuki dolls.

the reason is our skin easily get burn under the sun, unlike for westerners/europeans it gets red, like lobster, but for us it will look like grilled chicken and it will took sometime to regain our natural color.

im proud of my brown color, but a little bit darker than that hmmmmmm wait i have to get my umbrella....

i'm a filipino and i use an umbrella to protect my skin everyday upon going to my work at the construction site. Today a lot of news are spreading across the continents about skin cancer and using an umbrella to protect your skin from direct sunrays is the best preventive action.

funny? i don't think so...you should look at youself when you laugh and then tell me if there's something funny

maybe bubbly will make a new post on it..."umbrella nightmares"...

umbrellas chasing you...

umbrella-people telling you to shut up...

plates turning into umbrellas...

the sky looking like a giant umbrella...

canes, pencils, cellphones look like umbrellas..

instructors only teach "how to use" an umbrella..

geez...

ms. saigon, it's not funny thought seeing one with that but i too would make an initial reaction of putting a smile on my face not for being "fun of" but seeing it as "cute" scenario.

Miss saigon, laugh till you drop, its your democratic right to do what you want to do, but i'm sure if that guy saw you're laughing at him, you can't laugh again in your whole life, i'm sure of that.. so its better next time bring umbrella , not for the purpose of escaping from the sun rays, but for the purpose of covering yourself upon laughing to someone....

how about lebanese hair? also designed for GREASE?? and POINTED peter pan shoes? just asking??? mean no harm...

phils. is a tropical country, thoughits hot ther..still filipinos are using umbrellas, not only being afraid of having darker complexion..

why africans are used to high temp? coz their skin is designed for that weather..

if u dont know..there are lots of cases of filipinos falling on their work just because of the heat of the sun. or having nose bleed or high fever at night after a long day exposure to the sun!!!

I do find it quite funny that people do make a fuss whenever they see someone using an umbrella here in Qatar. people do have different thresholds on what's funny, amusing and what's not.

By azilana7037• 14 May 2009 13:08

The guy with the umbrella was described as Asian.

Others made their own opinion though the OP meant no offense.

Some mentioned the fear of getting skin cancer...??????

Asian or any other brown (or dark)skinned race should not be worried about this coz we have far more MELANIN PIGMENTS in our skin compared to the fairer skinned races.

Melanin provides a natural protection against the harmful effects of these rays. However, it does not provide complete protection from the sun, and individuals with darker skin tones are still at risk from the sun's damaging rays.

Generally, those with darker skin tones and more melanin are able to tolerate exposure to the sun for hours without getting sunburn.

By contrast, a person with lighter skin may get sunburn after spending only minutes in the midday sun.

when she said funny, she meant it put a smile on her lips. The description was not to belittle or put the situation in bad sight but more on to lighten the discussion. If you find the thread offensive, I think it was not meant to be. Knowing how Pinoys thinks, this is just a case of putting some smile on our lips and make things a little bit brighter! skin cancer, blah blah blah. it is just a case of people who are afraid of, PLEASE DON'T LET IT HAPPEN, no it would be such a curse, the agony of.....................

their skin being a little darker. OH WHAT A HORRID THOUGHT!!!

My friends, the umbrella carrying in the summer is just a reaction of the many brainwashed people of color who are bombarded with media of images that white is beautiful.

You don't get skin cancer from day to day travels outside such as going to work, going shopping, etc, etc. You get it from REPEATED extended long stays outside.

If an umbrella was really needed for such short day to day excursions as a way to fight skin cancer, then I think it should be common knowledge that skin cancer rates would be much higher than they are!!!

whats wrong with a guy using an umbrella? its not that he or she doesnt want to burn his or her skin, EH KUNG SA MAINIT TALAGA EH! whats so funny? its not about avoiding to get our skin burned, maybe they are avoiding to spend a lot of money to buy whitening soaps and lotion to get a fair skin!!!! hehehehehehehe.

By Lorena• 13 May 2009 16:19

Umbrella is designed to protect against the sunlight and rain. Different countries using this device not only filipino, its that filipinos are very conscious about their skin color they wanted to get white not dark, and did u know that here in middle east you cant get out without umbrella or sunblock, you'll got burned quickly. Funny here i have white skin and i want to get dark so i am happy if the summer is coming so i can get dark color of my skin (love it). But ofcourse i know what time i should go under the sun. And Did you know that Umbrella can be held as fashion statements in the twenty first century for some men and women and are sometimes seen as simple accessories that complete an outfit.

Does it funny also if a man having long nail in pinkies for toothpick hhahhahhaha... peace man....

Cheers!

Enjoy Life!

I guess it's REALLY a funny scene for a burly hunk of a man walking across the street with a cigaretter in one hand and holding an umbrella with his other hand...I'm thinking of it in ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE.

I wonder if you also noticed if ONE OF HIS "pinkies" (small fingers---in case some folks don't know what a PINKIE IS) were up? Or if his stride is somewhat effeminate (sp)?

Coz we all know that MEN could either be a METROSEXUAL or a member of the federation. Some are OPEN and some are still CLOSET QUEENS.

Just wondering, though...hehehehe

Thanks mallrat, you understand the context of my post it was like a gang out there waiting for somebody to say something bad about filipinos and hoola, I love my country you’re a traitor attitude…..

I found it funny because its seldom for a filipino guy to be tall ( I am expecting another outburst here) and on heavy side (careful, careful) with umbrella.

Everybody was saying about skin cancer etc etc etc … . but then again lesson learned I have to be précised with my post “the guy was smoking” so he will die of lung cancer first before skin cancer will kill him.

I think it was vanity more than ever that’s why we uses umbrella, we don’t want to get darker than the color that we have now, aside that sun makes our skin mature easily, skin cancer is least of my concern,

I have seen one asian ( generic now) guy near gulf cinema in a Michael Jackson billy jean black pants and a green sequined thriller jacket minus the white gloves, again I found it funny,

These unusual people makes my boring life in Qatar worth living.

I didnt get the point why you had to laugh at the guy... as you've said it was past 11am which mean almost noon, when the sun is in its peak. He was wearing construction attire, which probably mean he's been under the sun since the morning. I see nothing wrong with someone trying to protect himself.

Before you even think that everyone protecting themselves from the sun is taking some whitening product... get your facts right... the sun can cause pre-mature ageing, cancer, and heatstroke to say the least.
