Hey shalla, go eat something or play with a toy baby. you will get attention when we are free
If you spend less time writing bs here, you will have planty of time to cooke cakes every day!
thanks tinker and vivme ... sounds very reasonable.. i willlet you know my progress as i go
My wife and I both work. My wife cooks alternate days. We shop on the days that we do not cook on. I cook occasionally and also take care of the laundry and some general cleaning.
We have specials on the weekends. We eat out once and order in once.
Used to seem daunting initially, but like the others have said, once you start fitting into the pattern it works easily.
Having a husband that knew how to boil water without burning it would be a big help :P
Honestly I have a "set menu" for the week of stuff that doesn't take more than 20 minutes to prepare. On the weekends I prepare anything that takes awhile, like soups, curries, sauces, baby food, etc and freeze it for the week.
Hubby is in charge of taking what he wants for dinner out of the freezer every morning.
Get domestic help. Cook for 2 days. Or quit working))))
Make a weekly meal plan and shop according to that plan. When you cook dal or anything like mutton curry make enough for 3 or 4 meals and then put it into containers and freeze it. Then all you need to do is take it out of the freezer in the morning. Use a rice cooker and eat rice instead of roti or chapati during the week (oh shock horror). Slow cookers work well too. Fry the onion, tomato and spices and then just put it into the slow cooker with the meat/dal, turn it on to low and when you get home in the evening it will be ready.
molten that was really a good one.
thanks ghazals .. for the practical suggestios
ladies , more suggestions pls ... for poor housekepers like me :)
Polly, whenever I start cooking, I do something else also side by side to save my time.
I do my grocery shopping in the Thursday evenings or Friday Mornings and finish cooking on Fridays/Saturdays.
A good stock of homemade Kabab, seekh kabab & chops in your freezer also make a great meal with 'daal chawal'.
Keep always Potatoes in store. You can make from 'em a spicy dry bhaji, liquidy bhujiya, cutlets, parathas & rice (tahri) also within limited time.
Polly, Atleast once in a month near salary day, mention to your children or to yourself [ when your husnand is around & listening indirectly ] that you would better remain at home & take care of everything properly .
He will be sweetly shocked & be more concerned towards his role in kitchen / washing / ironing tasks etc
Thanks molten for posting this in forums , cus in the Q&A there is just one response !!!
Thanks all with suggestions. my husband also keeps long hours and often works from home too. I am indian , and i guess all indian ladies out there will empathize with me that our food need sa lot of preparation plus there are few one pot meals. anyways i guess i need to streamline my days a bit more. for sometime i wasted time looking for a cook. hired a few in between too - - but some problems arose ( ahem ahem )
oh goodness, i wish i had some magical powers
its all about balance, pu dont say how many hours or days u work? u dont say what free time ur husband has?
Most of the "super moms" I know have husbands who are happy to help their wife with household chores like cooking, cleaning and taking care of the kids.
What is your husband doing while you are cooking?
Hi there , yes and u r right. being a working mom is really hard. but 1st you need to do some time table schedule for everyday routine.
Like Food List (what kinds of food you like to eat) easy recipe is more better with us. (put in the cointainer and marinate it)Cleaning / Washing / Ironing clothes (make a shedule as well) Bonding for kids while your watching TV or while cooking (Let your kids to help you to prepared and organized the stuff.) play with them.
in our Day Off , relax and have fun with family. (do some Baking , activities for kids , and for the daddy as well.)

Polly, many mothers share the same situation with you. I'd say that you and your husband should share the responsibilities. That's how people do it where I come from, and it seems to work quite well.
Whatever someone wants to say can say (reply) in Q&A section. Why is it brought to main page?
:) maybe he was doing a good deed, or maybe he really wants answers to this question. Honestly speaking, I would like to read the answers too, because I don't work yet, but am planning to.
This is just a question of what one takes seriously. Work or cooking?
hey molten why did you post my question i the forums ?
