Cannot realy say this is bread as it is not baked. Rice powder is fermented overnight with yeast ( back home they even use alcohol from the palm tree called Toddy). This is then poured on a pan smeared with oil . This is often consumed with Cocunut milk+Sugar . ALso goes well with Spicy Chicken and meat dishes or potato stew .I must tell you ,it is not the easiest of things to make as its texture depends on the right fermentation . Else the whole appam may stick to the pan when it is made

If its stiff a foot long ;)...its paper dosa and made of rice ... when its stuffed with potato it becomes masala dosa. both you eat dipped in different sauces... like green/red/orange/white etc.

Green=Mint

Red=Chilli

White sauce ...jeez...coconut!

Roomali roti is also very thin.... but served with chicken curry or lamb curry.

there are many kind of appams and its very hard to find a good appam at a restaurant, you have to have it hot off the stove

You need to find yourself a nice Keralite lady to give you the recipe :-)

BTW... the coconut sauce you were talking about is probably an 'ishtoo' which is Malayalam for stew

I'd say it is dosa...but if it what you ate is almost tasteless and you liked it dipped in sauces, wouldn't you be better served to just buy the sauces?

Was it white on one side and brown on the other?

or was it the same colour on both sides?

was it just circular or circular but wound up as a cylinder?

Was it served on a steel plate?

We have to get to the bottom of this...
