Depend on your mean of transportation (if you have a sedan or a 4WD) and how far you willing to go off Doha in order to find a nice family beach?
I will here mention some of the best beaches in Qatar, and also provide their GPS coordinate. Please be responsible and clean off your trash once you done with your picnic :) :) :)
1- Wakra beach: Nice and accessible by sedan car; however all the time crowded and not so family-friendly. Sandy beach (Easy to find)
2- Sealine beach: Same as above. N24 52.007 E51 31.545
3- From sealine resort to the Inland sea: 4WD and desert-driving experience is a must. Very vast area, and a continuous 50km of sandy beach. You can find very nice and secluded areas for you and your family. You must know how to drive in the sand to access that area.
4- Fuwairit cliffs: 4WD recommended, or you can access it by sedan, but very rugged rocky terrain. Also very nice beach (rocky beach) and fantastic scenery. You can also access the beach south to Fuwairit cliffs, but be very very careful, as the area is a mangroove march, and if your car get bogged, you can get into serious troubles with the incoming tide.
Coordinate: N26 02.915 E51 21.597
5- South of Dukhan beach: Fantastic area, but a 4WD is a must: To access it, you've to go past the club, and drive around 2km of sandy area. Sandy beach and clear water most of the time.
Coordinate: N25 22.169 E50 45.69
6- Zikreet: West Coast and Northern Coast of Zikreet Peninsula: Amazing area, you might also see the thompson gazelles and ostriches in that natural reserve. A nice old touristic village built there, in addition to the zikreet village at the entrance of the peninsula
Zikreet village: N25 29.165 E50 50.807
Touristic village: N25 35.187 E50 50.596
As for beaches, the area is full of beaches. You go explore and find your nicest spot. The West coast of the peninsula is mostly rocky, and the east coast is mostly marches, and sandy so careful in the east coast.
7- Umm Bab beach: Went there once, not so and so... Area didn't look that clean. I hope that changed since 1 year.
N25 12.401 E50 46.067
8- Al-Ghariyah: 4km north of Fuwairit. A 3km long sandy beach. Accessible by Sedan car, but you'll have to avoid the patch of sands while driving with a sedan car so not to get stuck. N26 03.586 E51 21.384
Other areas: Al-Aliyah Island (Bird sanctuary and nice beach on one side, and mangroove on another). However boat access is necessary. Al-Safliyah Island: Also very nice beach & boat access is a must. Al-Zakheera (Thakeera): 14km north of Al-Khor; Amazing mangroove reserve; flamingos, and other birds. Nice beach areas to explore around. 4WD is a must.
Otherwise, I have many other beaches (but those are classified :P). What I advise is to have some sense of adventure, a good 4WD drive if possible, u get with some1 u like arnd (bf, gf, husband bla bla bla), an icebox full of juices/beer or whatever, and go around and explore Qatar! You'll be surprised at all the amazing and most wonderful scenery you can find in Qatar and you've thought they never existed !
Sealine is a nice place for swimming next to the resort but it would be nice if they had a family section as the single guys tend to swim right in front of your family as I notice last weekend.

If you like to barbeque just after the sunset, beaches around Al Ghariya Resort are pretty good (nice and quite) with very few people around you.
Unfortunately there is no beach in Qatar to go with family because all beachs for the hotels!!!
Go to Sealine Beach resort..
