On a five year leave from job in Canada. Currently doing the hardest job in the world....housewife and mom.
Why does the term housewife crack me up?

I understand, lots of my friends couldn't wait to get back to work after their little ones were born. A year of maternity leave and They claimed they were overworked at home were losing their sanity......so going back to work was like a vacation for them :) I on the other hand thought about them all day and couldn't wait till my shift ended so I could rush back home to be with them. It all depends on the parent and I do understand both sides of it.

Just appreciating that I have both options here, where in Canada I didn't .

Dear you should enjoy it while it lasts, i was nagging about it until i was obliged to take a job to help out my husband... now am not only a mother and a homemaker on top of it am a nursery teacher so im a mother of 26 other kids... count ur self lucky ! im blessed with my children but imagine what ur doing everyday... and on top of it 8 hours of raising other people's children.. it is not easy and yes im exhausted everyday but im rewarded everyday.

maybe the grass just seems greener on the other side and maybe because i'm not even married lol; but i feel i'd like very much to be a stay at home dad..sure you still need to wake up early (the worst part of a person's existence)..still need to work hard..but at least it's all for your own family and not some random guy/company that pays you for a fair day's work..yes you could say the working men/women too are doing it for their family but there you go..its just that cooking a great meal for the kids just seems more motivating than turning out a great presentation for the boss..oh well:-)

job

1    [job] Show IPA noun, verb, jobbed, job·bing, adjective

noun

1.

a piece of work, especially a specific task done as part of the routine of one's occupation or for an agreed price: She gave him the job of mowing the lawn.

2.

a post of employment; full-time or part-time position: She was seeking a job as an editor.

3.

anything a person is expected or obliged to do; duty; responsibility: It is your job to be on time.

4.

an affair, matter, occurrence, or state of affairs: to make the best of a bad job.

5.

the material, project, assignment, etc., being worked upon: The housing project was a long and costly job.

********************************************************

According to number 3 Brit it is a job. But I agree, it's also a father's job as well as a mother's.

By lost-in-qatar• 27 Sep 2012 12:52
lost-in-qatar

Smoke, can't help the way I feel. No pity needed, au contraire, we love it and wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

So why are you avoiding the initial question.....what do you do smoke...besides the obvious, invite people to BBQs, beer, etc.....and then take back your invite?

By britexpat• 27 Sep 2012 12:50

Yes, but is it a "job"

Bringing up kids becomes part of our lives as soon as we opt to have them.

No doubt its fun bringing up young kids and with great responsibility!

Keep up the good job ladies

Thats me house husband to be honest women are a lot better at this role. Saying that there is not a harder job in he world than bringing up kids. No job in the world brings greater satisfaction as the kids are more important than any work. Its tiring its hard its funny i wouldnt do it again!

By lost-in-qatar• 27 Sep 2012 12:41

Because we love our children and we gave them our all. It never stops 24/7. When we do get a little break we can't help but feel guilty for not being with them. That's how I feel....

By FathimaH• 27 Sep 2012 12:41

I agree. And even when you are at work you are still taking care of him one way or another!

By Miss Mimi• 27 Sep 2012 12:38

I don't think there's such thing as a mother who doesn't work 24/7. When I'm not at work, I'm taking care of my son.

Why do women always say "it's the hardest job in the world, but we love it" ?

Surely motherhood for most is a choice and part/parcel of life - As is fatherhood.

Back home both partners need to work to make ends meet, yes even in Canada. That's one thing I need to remind myself when boredom gets the better part of me. This time with my children watching them grow, being there every step of the way....Priceless.

Thank you Qatar .

Very true..though I must admit we modern day mom's and wife, what with all the latest inventions, have it far more easier than our moms and grandmas did. But I'd say the intangible duties still remain stressful and very crucial.

No one in this world can fix salary for the housewife & mom .. some times media try to sum it up like being responsible for the tasks of cook, cleaner, telephone operator, receptionist, secretary, baby sitting, laundry washer, buyer, store incharge, inventory controller , consultant, guard etc among others .. the list is endless..
