SCHOOL RUN

Can anyone help me?  My son is starting Park House School on 19 November and I have no means of transporting to school on a morning.  Is there anyone out there living near Al Sadd street who could assist me or can anyone recommend a driving service.  Is it possible for me to order a taxi - details of reliable taxi firms appreciated.

Also on our first evening in Doha we would like to go out with our son for a nice meal - any recommendations, must be licensed as I can't eat without Wine......

These are not taxi companies but they are properly licensed drivers. Ahmed drives for a company that has a contract with Rydges hotel and Mohammed something similar but you can do your own contract with them.

I wouldn't bother with the taxi company which is called Karwa. Its a waste of time. The cars are nice and the drivers are smart but they are very unreliable in terms of showing up on time if at all. With the drivers I suggested, you deal only with them and you have their phone numbers and they have yours. For me it worked vey well. I still use these guys when I go out for a drink.

Also a lot of the Karwa guys are new to Doha and don't know their way around. Mohammed and Ahmed have both been here for more than 10 years and can help you with a multitude of things in addition to getting around.

Back to restaurants. My daughter (aged 10) really enjoys the outdoor restauarant (med/Italian) at the Sheraton. You can have your wine and at this time of the year it is very pleasant to sit outside.

Is this a taxi company or driver rental co? Although my husband and I love Asian food I don't think my little boy would eat anything? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for these numbers - I will definitely contact them.

When I first came to Qatar before I got a car I used these guys who were both very reliable and have decent cars (Chevy Caprice).

Ahmed 5496293

Mohammed 5546096

In terms of cost from Al Sadd to Park House is about 15-20QR. But you can negotiate a cheaper weekly rate. Of the two, Mohammed speaks the better English but if I were you I would try both. Really good guys and they never once let me down.

As far as licensed restaurants, I agree with Butterfly but would also recommend the Asian restaurant in the Marriot which I find to be very good.

A driver would be great but how do I go about getting one and how much do they charge, how does it work.

Advice appreciated

Then hotel restaurants are the best and only option. I suggest the Four Seasons. If you happen to go for Friday brunch instead they have a wonderful kid's buffett AND an amazing chocolate fountain.

Good luck with the school run. Have you thought about getting a driver?
