School admissions

I am about to sign a contract that would mean my family and I moving to Doha at the end of March. The package covers schooling but I am concerned that all the British, English or international schools may be full. I have had a reply from QIS stating that they have no more places. I have two sons aged seven and nine, can anyone advise me whether any places may be available elsewhere?

Thank You.

Hei michellebailham, I know that you are pleased with the place of your kids at DBS and I know also that this school has a good facilities, most of teachers are British including the principal that also teaches there, but they have a BIG problem in number that is (still) around 30 pupils per class specially at early years... this is a big minus for this school and their education specialists!

First I've heard of it and don't know anyone who's children go there, on looking at the website does seem to have good facilities though.

Hi, list of British schools for you to try are...as follows:

Doha British School

Doha College

Park House

DESS (Doha English Speaking School)

Sherborne

Compass

These are the recommended English Schools, they're in no particular order but do vary in cost, Dess, Doha College, Sherborne and Compass being the most expensive. There are a few more English speaking/corriculem Schools but are not recommended.

I have had one positive response from the Gulf English School, does anyone have any experience or views on them?

Hi, try Doha British School (DBS) comes recommended as my children go there, we came out in September and were on Park House list for 6 months to no avail. We were also on the list at DBS for a short while who did offer places at which I am more than pleased with, the facilities are very good as are the teachers (mostly British,) the head took the time to see us in person were Park house didn't. The only downfall at the moment is there is a lot of construction going on around the school but this will soon be finished. Hope you find places soon and am sure you're family will enjoy living in Doha.

michelle is right DBS is a good school with good facilities and they do treat your applications with a bit more consideration than some of the other schools.

There are a many schools that are following the English Curriculum. You will have to apply to as many schools as possible and see if any places are available. People are always coming and going in this place, hence places do tend to pop up.

Good luck
