RP

Is it true that police will put anybody in jail

if they ask for RP? If that is the case, does it necessarily mean that we need to bring our passport everywhere since the RP is affixed to it.

I wonder they are not giving the RP card now?

It is not true, I'm here since last seven years, no body asked me for ID / RP / driving licence. Authorities may ask any person in case of any incident like road accident etc. otherwise no problem.

But in other way, the ID should be carried out incase of emergency, for your relatives or sponsor

I hate to sound cynical but this threat isn't aimed at, how do I put this delicately, 'white collar' people.

The government is trying to track down the poorer labourers who have been here for years and years without any sponsorship and illegally.

Ideally you should be carrying on your person your ID card, but if you aren't I am sure they will let you provide it.  The people who should be worried aren't the sorts of people posting on this blog, but the poorer Asian workers living here illegally.

go to any immigration office and ask them for an ID. You will get it on the spot. It will cost you 50 or 100 Riyals.

Q. Is it true that police will put anybody in jail if they ask for RP?

A. No. If they ask you for ID and you show them your ID, they won’t put you in jail. They might detain you only  if you don’t have any ID (PR card or driver license) on you.

Q. ...does it necessarily mean that we need to bring our passport everywhere since the RP is affixed to it?

A. No. You have to only carry your RP card with you.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the company, I received my new ID immediately with a 3 year visa I had to pay for the ID QR 100,-- .

I am sure everyone should have on issued, however this may change with the issue of the new ID cards this year.

bring the passport copy of the RP page in your passport. The RP number in your passport is your ID card number.
