Even if the British embassy would agree to wed them, which i doubt coz it's not legal, such wedding will not be valid. (to get married in the embassy u have to be from the same nationality)
from what i know, they don't have to convert if they r both christian! they just need a paper from their church that would allow them to get married.
my opinion: u cannot do it in Qatar.
best in here, if they want only civil wedding, let them go to any of their countries to get married (same documents apply as i've mentioned before).
ask if u have any other Qs, i've been through all this before, so i know how it goes
If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.
But i think they can marry in the courts here but like Las Vegas it is not recognised outside of qatar, they will proberbly have better luck with the british embassy if they go there together although I do believe there is a long waiting period before they will conduct the ceremony as the british embassy will have to check that both are legal to marry and as with anything that requires two different countries government bodies it will involve alot of paper work and time.
Forgive me if this is wrong advice, just as well they don't want a church cos a christian cannot marry a catholic in a catholic church and vice versa....unless they go thru the rigmarole of converting! so then it'll be a civil ceremony and I think the British Embassy will be able to help with that one.......

Hi, thanks for your help to date. They are both Christian (one Catholic). I understand they prefer not to go to a church, as they do not feel particularly religious... one is British and one is a New Zealander. There is no NZ embassy here, but there is a British embassy. I have contacted them and I am waiting to hear whether they will wed them.
They can still have a quiet wedding in the church/mosque if they are from the same religion. (sorry if i skipped other religions, but i don't know how it goes with other ones).
if they would like to have a big ceremony later on, they can still do it as a blessing/renewal of the vows, etc.
just one thing you have to remember: in many counties, esp in EU, marriage contracted in your religion is not taken as a valid one and there is still civil wedding needed.

as far as i know there is no "civil weddings" in Qatar for people who are from different religions, unless they are from the same nationality, then they can get married in the embassy.
but normally, in any country that would agree to do it, as per international law, you need:
passports,
birth certificate,
free to marry certificate.
All documents not older than 3 months and certified by the MOFA in the country or origin.
If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.
the court ! they must have original certifications from the embassy that they are singles and birth certificate and original passports and nowadays i don't know what else , but it was all papers my friend needed when they got married 2 years ago they where from deferent countries .good luck

If they are muslims, no other place to be solemnized but at the sharia court..
