Is This Really HOw They fix It Here/
So i report a damp peeling wall in my passage outside my bathroom...and water in the bathroom. They send me a man who has some wet plaster ready to apply and says, "plaster" I tell him he needs to find the leak. He doesn't answer, scrapes away the peeling paint and applies the wet plaster. 2 minutes later the painter walks in and paints over the wet plaster. The foreman then arrived and I asked him how that was going to fix the leak? He pointed to the wall and said, "NO MORE LEAK"
All I could do at this point was laugh as I couldn't believe how serious he was that the leak was fixed!
LOL -I really learn't something new today... all it takes is a plasterer and a painter to fix a leak!
Welcome to Qatar--the place where they almost get it right.
hahaha so it does seem like a pattern here...
we have a repair-man in our compound, but he doesn't come to do our repairs anymore, coz last time he came to fix the leak we only gave him QAR20 as a tip... hahaha
isn't that what he is paid for anyway?
Its OK...sometimes we can accept the reality as it is without being considered as implying "only"...:)
you mistreat an employee, he will make sure his workmanship is shoddy even if he is an expert.
You ain't seen nothing yet
I bought a radiator hose for my Jeep at Al Mana. I said:" This is too short." The (Indian) salesman said:" Don't worry, go to a garage, they will make it longer."
"agree with you as always Tinker :o)
you pay peanuts you get monkeys... but train the monkeys so that they don't pose danger to themselves or to others"
Then Please Send Them to the MOON......
Been here for six years and stayed at three flats, few common things i experienced-
- Fuse trips when a bulb goes off
- too much gap between floor tiles, difficult to get dirt out
-no proper sloping for water to get to the drain
We are here for a year so let the games begin... ;)
lol, yes...and there is soooo much more...just you wait and see Mitch!
The good thing is that those houses are paid for...and not by us :)
I lived in a compound that has problems with sewage. So my house smelled like a sewage dump...it got so bad, that we could not stay there. Maintenance told us to open all the water taps in the house and leave them running for an hour. Now, that DID help.....but certainly did not fix the problem. Also I told maintenance that we could not waste all that water several times a day...he said, no problm, your employer pays for water...ya, well....what do you say to such a moron????We moved out...the problem still exists...5 years later.
I'm not being racist but that's the typical Indian/Bangladesh/Bengali service you get here.
you had someone turn up, which is better than most.
The lamp was making funny noises and you could smell burning and the lamp blew. It has happened several times and lamps replaced. Called foreman and tell him I think it's the socket in the wall.. he agreed with me and then told me, " stop to use the plugs in the house, then problem go away!"
I kid you not people this is real!! Help! We have to use the complex staff...
agree with you as always Tinker :o)
you pay peanuts you get monkeys... but train the monkeys so that they don't pose danger to themselves or to others... so many of them get injured just because they don't know what they're doing! shame - it's not really their fault
Mandi;P
Mich1, welcome to Qatar:-)
It only needs to stay fixed until the maintainance guy gets out the door, silly!
Mandi
Take a deep breath and welcome to Qatar lol
hahaha typical!
My boss nearly died a few weeks ago when he was leaving the office and the labourers working on the roof decided to throw old A/C unit off the roof!
After our complaint to the building manager, they gave the labourers safety talk as a preventive measure... in English... none of them understands a word in English
I agree with you - we can only laugh...
You are going to get this response from a bunch of defensive Indians; "Of course, it is the Western guy at the very top of the tree who is to blame for this".
Even though you didn't mention nationality.
You have been advised.
